HERE’S WHAT TO DO
Having a car accident or witnessing one it’s almost inevitable during a driver’s lifetime. If that’s the case, it’s better to be prepared by knowing what to do in case you're involved in a car collision. Keeping calm could be crucial in handling this kind of situation, especially assessing yourself or your passengers.
CHECKING IF EVERYONE’S OK
Your personal safety and your passenger’s it’s a priority. If you or anyone are injured, try not to move and call for assistance immediately. Wait for emergency personnel to give assistance at the scene. It might be a good idea to be checked by a doctor, even if you feel good at the moment. Keep in mind that some injuries may not become apparent until later on.
KEEPING IT CALM
It sounds difficult and we already said it, but it’s worth a reminder. It can be a rough experience, but try to keep your head up and cooperate with the people involved or the authorities. That said, do not admit fault and it’s strongly suggested to not leave an accident scene, or it could be considered a crime in itself.
DOCUMENTING THE SCENE
It's important to assess the accident scene to avoid further complications, after documenting and writing down every detail. If you're able, take pictures of your car’s and the involved parties visible damage. This could be useful through the insurance claim process.
ASKING FOR DOCUMENTATION
It’s important to get as much information as you can about the other people involved in the crash. Information such as name, contact number, driver’s licence and plate number, insurance company, and vehicle details such as color, year, model, etc.
