Cross-Contamination Risk

Steel and aluminum must never share the same work environment. Steel particles left on aluminum surfaces — from grinders, files, or shared tools — embed themselves into the aluminum and create galvanic corrosion that degrades the metal from the inside out, often invisibly. Our shop maintains a fully segregated aluminum repair zone with dedicated tools, benches, and air filtration systems that never contact steel components.

Welding Processes: MIG vs. TIG vs. Rivet Bonding

Aluminum requires welding techniques and filler materials entirely different from steel. Depending on the OEM’s repair procedure for your specific vehicle, our technicians use:

• MIG Welding (Metal Inert Gas) — Used for structural aluminum repairs on vehicles such as the Ford F-150 aluminum body, Audi A8 spaceframe, and Tesla Model S. Requires aluminum-rated wire feeders and 100% argon shielding gas.
• TIG Welding (Tungsten Inert Gas) — Used for precision aluminum repairs on thinner gauge panels and luxury vehicle structures including BMW, Jaguar, and Porsche aluminum components. Produces cleaner, stronger welds on complex geometry.
• Rivet Bonding and Structural Adhesive — Required by manufacturers including Audi, Land Rover, and Lucid for multi-material structural joins. Combines aluminum rivets with aerospace-grade structural adhesive to match factory assembly strength.
• Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) — A low-heat MIG process required by certain OEMs for thin aluminum panels to prevent distortion and burn-through.

Heat Management and Work Hardening

Aluminum work-hardens when cold-worked, meaning repeated hammering or bending stiffens the metal and reduces its ductility. Unlike steel, aluminum cannot simply be heated with a torch and reformed without risk of micro-cracking. Our technicians use OEM-specified heat induction tools and thermal blankets to manage panel temperatures precisely within manufacturer tolerances during any reshaping operation. Panels that exceed these tolerances are replaced with OEM aluminum components — never straightened past their repair limit.

Dedicated Aluminum Frame Measuring Systems

Aluminum spaceframes and structural rails require laser-precision measuring systems to verify dimensional accuracy to within fractions of a millimeter.
